Palma Airport Duty Free

Know Before You Fly

After your vacation on the Spanish Balearic Island of Mallorca, it’s very likely that you’ll be heading home on a flight that departs from Palma Airport. Once you’ve checked in for your flight and cleared security, one highlight that you have to look forward to is the large duty free shopping area, which is considered to be one of the biggest such venues in Europe.

Location and hours

The main collection of duty free shops is situated in the departure section of the terminal on the fourth level and it’s only open to people who have tickets to fly out that day.

You can also find a few smaller duty free shops known as express shops, which are located close to the gates where you will board your flight home in Terminal Modules A, C and D.

There’s a great range of items that you can buy, including perfume, cosmetics, watches, clothes, tobacco, wind, food and various souvenirs to remind you of your time in Mallorca.

The duty free shopping area is open all hours of the day, seven days a week, during the peak season in the summer but the hours are more restricted during the winter months.

Your shopping allowances

It’s important to know that even though you won’t have to pay any duty on the items that you buy in this area at the airport, some limits on how much you can purchase will apply. Check below to see the specific regulations in place for the country where you live.

European Union: If you live in a country that is a member of the European Union then the following limits apply as the maximum amount of a particular good you can buy:

  • Beer: 110 liters
  • Wine: 90 liters
  • Sparkling wine: 60 liters
  • Fortified wine: 20 liters
  • Spirits: 20 liters
  • Cigarettes: 800
  • Cigars: 200
  • Cigarillos: 400

Great Britain: Since Brexit and England, Scotland and Wales leaving the European Union, specific allowances apply to bring back certain items from duty free shopping. For tobacco:

  • Cigarettes: 200
  • Cigars: 50
  • Cigarillos: 100
  • Tobacco sticks: 200

Note that you can combine half of the various allowances so long as you don’t exceed any of them, for example you would be allowed to buy 50 cigarillos and 100 tobacco sticks together.
And for alcohol there are also specific allowances for Great Britain:

  • Beer: No more than 42 liters
  • Wine: No more than 18 liters
  • Sparking wine: No more than 9 liters
  • Fortified fine: No more than 9 liters
  • Spirits: No more than 4 liters

For any other goods that you buy at the Palma Airport duty free and plan on flying back to Great Britain, the limit on the price of these items cannot exceed £390.
Non-European Union: If you are returning home to a country that is neither in Great Britain nor the European Union then it’s possible you may not have any limits on your duty free shopping.
