Meeting of MÉS per Mallorca with the Union of Air Traffic Controllers (USCA) on the privatisation of the control tower at Palma airport – MÉS

On Thursday, MÉS per Mallorca reiterated its position against the privatisation of Palma airport, considering that this “could compromise its efficiency and safety”.

This was the position of the party’s secretary general and candidate for the Consell de Mallorca, Jaume Alzamora, after meeting, together with the party’s parliamentary spokesman, Josep Ferrà, with the president of the Union of Air Traffic Controllers (USCA), Pedro Gragera, an organisation that is also publicly opposed to this privatisation.
“We cannot allow the decentralisation and privatisation of such an important service as the Son Sant Joan control tower, as this could compromise its efficiency and safety,” said Alzamora, who called for co-management of the airport so that decisions affecting the Balearics can be taken “from the community, and not from Madrid”.

For his part, Gragera described the privatisation of the service recently announced by the Minister for Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, as “plundering in Mallorca”, and said that “the service currently being provided is of high quality” and therefore “privatisation is not justified”.

For this reason, she called on the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to withdraw the ministerial order for privatisation, “as it makes no sense, nor is it viable or justified”.

MÉS per Mallorca recalled that, through the senator Vicenç Vidal, his party has already requested the appearance in the Senate of the minister Raquel Sánchez, so that she can give explanations on this proposal to privatise the control tower at Palma airport.
